Welcome Bozeman Volunteers to Befrienders! Read Our Philosphy and Why We Do What We Do.
Befrienders' mission is to enhance the quality of life by befriending our aging population.
Due to mid- and late-life transitions such as the loss of close family members and friends, residence relocation, retirement, and developing physical limitations, senior citizens are at risk of becoming socially isolated, lonely, and in need of positive personal interaction. Social support is not only necessary for emotional well being but also for physical health. Lack of social engagement is connected to increased heart disease and cognitive decline as well as greater risk of falling.
Befrienders recognizes that senior citizens have much to offer their community and younger generations; therefore, our program aims to provide opportunities for companionship and mentorship. Matches, or senior-visitor pairs, meet weekly and participate in activities such as chatting, grocery shopping, going for coffee, or watching movies. Through these valuable relationships, Befrienders not only addresses the need for senior companionship but does so in a way that respects and encourages the wisdom and experience that our older neighbors can share.
